Horse Sanctuary
assists other horse charities to rescue equines that have suffered neglect,
mistreatment or are simply unwanted.
In the near future, in association with local riding schools and
rescue centres, we plan to start an equine welfare training
programme. Such a programme will involve training the general public
in all aspects of equine husbandry including looking after and
riding a horse, ailment recognition and the costs involved in caring
for a horse. This will enable us to educate those who have contact
with equines making them aware of their responsibilities and the
costs involved. Hopefully this will reduce the incidents of neglect
and abuse. Prevention is obviously preferable although at Horse
Sanctuary UK Limited we will remain as a "cure".
We believe every horse, pony and donkey has the right to be part of
a loving family where it will be cared for and loved to the end of
its natural life. Where possible we rehabilitate the animals and,
when fully recovered, we "loan" them out to homes which
can provide such an environment. All loan homes are rigorously
checked and the loaned animal is visited from time to time to check
on its well-being. If the loan home is no longer able to look after
the animal, for whatever reason, it has to be returned to the
lending stables.
It must be said that, in addition to raising awareness to the
plight suffered by equines in this country, access by the public
also provides much needed revenue for our web service. It is therefore essential to our
long term plans to maintain our current level of service.
As a charity Horse Sanctuary UK Limited relies on donations, including legacies,
covenants, gift aid, etc., to maintain its aim to relieve equine
suffering. To continue our work we need all the support we can
get.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
Each aspect of the refurbishment and expansion programme is budgeted.
Costs involved range from £2,000 to £45,000. Hence, we need the support of both individuals and
companies if additional horses in our area are to receive the love
and care we give to all the horses in our care.
